About Me
My name is Saadia Cassiem, I am registered Social Worker who has been in practice for the last 17 years. I completed my Bachelors and my Masters in Social Work at the University of the Western Cape. I started working in the addiction field in 2006, initially as a Addiction Counselor and then as a Trainer.
In 2008, I was selected to be in a team that started out the City of Cape Town's (COCT) first Outpatient Drug and Alcohol Treatment program based on the Matrix Program. In my time at the COCT, I started up two other treatment sites. It was however during this period that I developed a specific interest in the affected families and friends of the substance abuser/ dependent. These "forgotten voices" became my main interest and I joined AFINET (The Addiction and the Family International Network) amongst other addiction networks.
The aim is to provide a platform for intervention for the families of the substance user, which is independent of the substance user/dependent. A program that focuses on the overall wellness of the "forgotten voices", the families. During my practice years, I have worked intensively with the client, the family, the workplace, the school and the community at large. Currently I am a clinical supervisor and Associate Lecturer at the University of the Western Cape.
Services I Offer include;
1.Supervision of addiction treatment staff.
2.Aftercare services for the substance user/dependent.
3.Assessment and Intervention with the substance user/dependent.
4.Intervention with the family member/s of the substance user/dependent.
5.Training on Basic Drug Information, improving treatment compliancy and Motivational Interviewing.
