9 June 2022 at 2:21 pmLast June I attended a workshop for parents entitled, Special Needs Parents Reclaiming Power by releasing, fear, anger and guilt. The title alone caught my eye and I just knew I had to attend this workshop. As a mom of a now 15 year old autistic son I can tell you with complete honesty my journey as a parent was not easy to say the least. As raising any child in this society isn’t however, raising a non Nero typical child comes with its own set of challenges. One of the main things I struggled with as a parent is guilt, anxiety and fear of the unknown. What would my son’s future look like, will he be financially secure, who will take care of him in my unfortunate time of passing. All of these fears were constantly playing on my mind and I knew I needed support in dealing with these challenges that I faced as a mother who knew deep inside , wanted her son to thrive( as all mother’s do) but didn’t have a map to navigate these feelings that I had. You can understand the sigh of relief that I had when I’m saw this mini course. I knew I had to take it. One of the many benefits I experienced in taking this course was being able to allow myself some grace. This course gave me the tools to be able to release and talk about my fears, anger and guilt that came with being a special needs parent. I implore anyone that has a special needs child and are looking for solutions and ways to navigate these feelings of guilt, anger and fear to definitely contact Sr Quesia Raqib and attend one of her many beneficial courses.
